About

A bit about our centre...
  • Our Philosophy

We believe that young children are active learners who construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world.

Each child is a unique, naturally curious and capable learner. At JEEC the children are engaged in active learning through play experiences that allow them to construct, test and apply their developing awareness.

  • “Fairness is not giving everyone the same thing, fairness is giving each person what they need to succeed”

  • The rights of the Child

Here at Jesmond Early Education Centre we have a strong belief in the ‘Rights of the Child’ this beginning with the children in our care. Our most important objective is keeping children safe and the way we do this is by providing a caring and nurturing environment. The children hold an important role in our service and everyday their needs and wants are met through educators listening to their cues, gestures and verbal responses. Children are encouraged to share their voice through discussion and speaking to individual educators about how they want to spend their day at day care.

  • The role of the Families

At JEEC we value the importance of caring for our environment as we promote and encourage sustainable practices such as; water conservation, energy efficiency and waste reduction.

Sustainability programs are explored with the children, educators, families and the community through gardening, composting, worm farming, recycling and water saving activities.

  • The role of the Community

JEEC is a Non Profit Community Based Centre that operates in conjunction with the Management Committee, Staff, Families and the Community. We acknowledge and value the importance of the wider community and endeavour to create and sustain links with our centre. We value and support ongoing development of students studying Early Childhood Education by allowing students from TAFE and University the opportunity to experience an Early Childhood setting.

“It takes a village to raise a child”

  • Our Daily Curriculum

At JEEC we provide an environment that supports ‘Being, Belonging and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF).

JEEC believes that children learn through ongoing free play with guidance and support through intentional teaching, spontaneous interactions and investigations.

    Becoming Me!”

  • Educators as Patners

We believe that young children are active learners who construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world.

The Educators at JEEC are long standing and dedicated to the education of young children. We believe that Young children flourish when the adults caring for them work well together. JEEC believes that the relationship between families and educators should be based on mutual respect, care and understanding.

As educators we understand the changing needs, ideas, and expectations of the child care industry. With this in mind we ensure we continue to reflect on our current practice as well as keeping up to date with new in- services, education and networking ideas to challenge our beliefs and build on our existing knowledge. This ensures we are always providing best practice for our service.

Young children do best (now and later) when they are nurtured within a tightly woven web of love”

  • Cultural Awareness and Equity

The educators in our service believe in high quality education to ensure all children have the ability to succeed regardless of their diverse background.

We believe that children should be exposed to different cultures to gain appreciation of cultural differences and similarities.

JEEC believes that our educational programs should reflect children’s cultural ways of being and knowing.

We aim to build strong relationships with families, so that children grow strong in culture and engage with learning about these cultures.

We also ensure that all children are familiar with the rich and long history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

“A strong cultural identity is essential to children’s healthy sense of whom they are and where they belong”
